After nine months on-board the International Space Station (ISS), astronauts, Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore are returning to Earth on-board a SpaceX capsule.

The American astronauts, who arrived at the ISS on June 6 2024, undocked from the orbiting laboratory at 12.05pm AWST (1.05am US Eastern Time ET) alongside two other astronauts.

The trip back home will take roughly 12-hours, according to the Perth Observatory’s Matt Woods.

“They’re coming back after 281 days, or so, on the International Space Station when they were only meant to be there for a week-and-a-half,” Matt told the Newsflash podcast.

There is good news though, if you’re a glass half-full kind of person, the pair will likely be the only astronauts to ever fly on both the Boeing Starliner and a Dragon Space Capsule.
